I love Halloween. I always have and probably always will. Yes, I am that person who coordinates their costume with their spouse (we were nerds last year). I also have no problem with the whole ‘girls taking everyday, unsexy objects and turning them into slutty costumes’ phenomenon – slutty cat, slutty bumblebee, slutty stapler. It’s Halloween, it’s all in good fun.
Anyway, here’s my line-up of interesting reads from all around the blogosphere this past week. Enjoy!
The Lemonade Stand – I stumbled upon this blog earlier this week. And I think it’s great. What first caught my eye was the clean, crisp design. She recently wrote this great article on why it’s ok to cry.
Reverse Job Application – I know people are beginning to get very creative when it comes to job hunting but is this reverse job application ballsy or just another example of that Gen Y feelings of entitlement we keep hearing about?
How To Be Yourself – A good reminder about staying true to yourself and not letting others water down your self worth. Plus I can totally relate to her anecdote about hating to wear business suits.
Awful Marie Claire Article – This article – and the backlash against it – has been making the rounds around the internet this week. It’s truly one of the most insensitive and hateful things I’ve read in a while. And all from a major women’s magazine. Marie Claire should be ashamed of themselves. It’s unfortunate how far they’ve slid from the days where you could open their magazine and expect to learn something. But the original article has sparked a lot of good debate including the As You Are Campaign. Check it out and send in your own letter to the editor.
Sisters & Happiness – I’m lucky enough to have not one, but two great older sisters. I’ve always known that they make me happy but now there is some science behind it.
And lastly, if you’re in LA be sure to come check out my Polka Dot Connection Meetup group. Our first meetup is scheduled for November 20th and is going to be a lot of fun!
Oh – and thanks to everyone who signed up for my first Coaching Cocktail Hour call. It was a great success and we had a good convo about careers, work life balance and blocks. Can’t wait till the November call!
That’s all I’ve got. Did I miss anything?
Have a happy, fun and safe Halloween weekend! See you on Monday.
